I want to live in HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE and be SPIRITED AWAY today

Director Hayao Miyazaki builds worlds that are easy to get lost in, populated by wizards and spirits. Worlds filled with events so extraordinary they’ve never been seen before in other films.

SPIRITED AWAY (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi)

This is the first film to earn $200 million in grosses before opening in the U.S.

The flexible light thing that jumps around and leads to the house is a reference to Pixar's mascot. Miyazaki is a big fan of Pixar and wanted to show his admiration.

First anime film to be nominated for (and win) an Academy Award. It also has the longest runtime of any other film nominated or winning in that category (124 minutes).

Chihiro: I'm see-through!

Lin: What's going on here?
Kamaji: Something you wouldn't recognize. It's called love.

No-Face: Come closer, Sen. What would you like? Just name it.
Chihiro: I would like to leave, sir; there's some place I need to go to right away, please. You should go back to where you came from. Yubaba doesn't want you in the bath house any longer. Where is your home? Don't you have any friends or family?
No-Face: [sulking] No... no... I'm lonely... I'm lonely.
Chihiro: [backing away] What is it that you want?
No-Face: I want Sen... I want Sen...
[shoving a handful of gold in front of her]
No-Face: Take the gold! Take it!
Chihiro: Are you going to eat me?
No-Face: Take it!

Zeniba: [Giving Chihiro a hair tie] It will protect you. It's made from the threads your friends wove together.

Chihiro: Haku, listen, I just remembered something from along time ago, I think it may help you. Once, when I was little , I dropped my shoe into a river. When I tried to get it back i fell in, I thought I'd drown but the water carried me to shore. It finally came back to me, the rivers name was the Kahaku river, I think that was you, and your real name is Kahaku river.
Haku: You did it, Chihiro, i remember, I was the spirit of the Kahaku river.
Chihiro: A river spirit?
Haku: My name is the Kahaku river.
Chihiro: They filled in that river, it?s all apartments now.
Haku: That must be why I can't find my way home Chihiro, I remember you falling into the river, and I remembert your little pink shoe.
Chihiro: So, you?re the one who carried me back to shallow water, you saved me... I knew you were good!

[last lines]
Chihiro’s Father: A new home and a new school? It is pretty scary.
Chihiro: I think I can handle it.

HOWL’L MOVING CASTLE (Hauru no ugoku shiro)

The film is loosely based on the novel by Diana Wynne Jones.

The character Pazu, from Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky, can be seen running in front of the Wizard Jenkins' door.

Old Sophie: All right Calcifer, lets get cooking.
Calcifer: I don't cook! I'm a scary fire demon!

Howl: So, what do you have in your pocket, Sophie?
Old Sophie: Huh?
[Finds a folded piece of paper]
Old Sophie: What is this?
Howl: Give it to me.
[paper burns leaving marks on the table]
Markl: Scorch marks! Howl, can you read them?
Howl: That is ancient sorcery and quite powerful too.
Markl: Is it from the Witch of the Waste?
Howl: "You who swallowed a falling star, o' heartless man, your heart shall soon be mine." That can't be good for the table.

Howl: Now I'm repulsive.
[slumps into a chair]
Howl: I can't live like this.
[starts sobbing, head in hands]
Old Sophie: Come on, it's not that bad.
[Howl's hair changes color to purple, then black]
Old Sophie: You should look at it now, its shade is even better.
Howl: [inconsolable] I give up. I see not point in living if I can't be beautiful
Markl: [Shadows begin to creep from walls] He's calling the spirits of darkness... I saw him do this once before when a girl dumped him!

Young Sophie: They say that the best blaze burns brightest, when circumstances are at their worst.
Calcifer: Yeah, but no-one really believes that. Come on, let's be honest

Sofi: A heart is a heavy burden.
