GreyCare, The Pet Greyhound Wellbeing & Veterinary Advisory Service

Hello everyone, thanks for joining us.

Please, may I ask that everyone who posts in this group takes the time to read this first.

Based in Brisbane, Australia, Grey Care offers pre and post adoption advice and support for both re-homers and new owners including behavioural assessment and comprehensive veterinary services.

Dr Karen is a veterinarian with 20 years clinical experience, who has owned and cared for greyhounds, whippets and borzois for much longer than that!
We are united in our goal to advocate welfare improvement for all greyhounds through education and cultural change.

Please note, all material in this group is provided for your information/understanding only and must not be construed as specific medical advice or instruction. No action or inaction should be taken based solely on the contents of this information; instead, readers should consult their veterinarian on any matter relating to their pets health and well-being.

The authors aim to provide general information about the health and well-being of greyhounds and other sight hounds. However, this information is not the same as specific veterinary advice based on your pet’s individual needs, and provided by a physical examination by a veterinarian. Although we go to great lengths to make sure our information is accurate and useful, we recommend you consult your veterinarian if you want professional assurance that our information, and your interpretation of it, is appropriate to your pet’s particular situation. In any emergency situation, or if your pet is unwell; please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Dr Karen does not endorse the views expressed by anyone other than those written by her. Whilst sharing experiences is helpful, we ask those commenting to please refrain from offering a diagnosis, specific treatment, commenting on specific drug dose rates or being judgmental.

It is important to remember that a consultation with a veterinary professional takes time to ensure we have all the facts before suggesting an appropriate course of action and treatment. We are not able to achieve that in this forum; it is not our intention, nor should we try to. Unfortunately posts that contain information that may be detrimental or inaccurate, no matter how well intentioned, will be removed as and when admins come across them.

And finally, the path for many greyhounds is not an easy one. In many ways, the politics of racing/rehoming can be counterproductive, impacting on adoption rates, and often causing much emotional collateral damage. Everyone is entitled to their own views, based on their own experiences, but this is not the forum for pro/anti racing sentiment, simply because we believe that people need a place to ask questions about the dog they care for, no matter what their background. We do not condone lying, bullying or anti-social behaviour of any kind and prefer those joining the group do so under their own profile.
