Keokuk Volunteers

The City of Keokuk Historic Preservation Commission is seeking volunteers this fall. We need help to board up / mothball the former Elks / Palace building located at 601 Blondeau Street. First we are having plywood delivered tentatively this Friday and may need help unloading it onto the front porch and/or front entryway. We need someone to find/mix us some recycled paint that closely matches the brown color of the existing wood on the windows. We need ladders, a generator for a saw and a few screw guns to install the plywood. For the second floor windows it would be nice to find a bucket truck or lift to install the plywood. What we basically need to do is cut some boards, paint the boards and get them installed over the openings. Also we need to improve the general appearance of the property by removing the blinds in the front windows, continue with landscaping and install an informational sign. We would like to complete this in the next 4-6 weeks before the snow flies!
