Kennedy Shane Ellis- Hugs, Kisses, Prayers, and Wishes

Kennedy Shane Ellis, daughter of Dustin and Krystal Ellis of Crawfordsville, Indiana, is a very bright and beautiful four year old girl. It is impossible to forget her if you have ever met her or heard of her story. In her first 18 months of life she had been struggling with weight loss, failure to thrive, and other serious health complications. Kennedy underwent many tests, procedures, and surgery with no success of a diagnosis. On August 13th, 2012, her head MRI was abnormal and she was diagnosed with a large brain tumor. The size and position of the brain tumor make it inoperable and leaves the only treatment options to chemo or radiation therapy.
She immediately went to surgery to have a chest port placed to get chemo therapy started. Her first round of two IV weekly chemo treatments lasted for 6 weeks until it was found to be ineffective and her MRI showed tumor growth with additional cysts. These results minimize the treatment options even more so; however, there was one more chemo treatment option before radiation therapy. She is currently going through her second trial of chemo cycle that lasts about 40 weeks and just finished months of steroid therapy. On December 11th, 2012, Kennedy underwent brain surgery to have a VP shunt placed to help decrease intracranial fluid pressure and a biopsy of her tumor. The results of the biopsy came back as a more aggressive and rare tumor than originally thought; Kennedy was diagnosed with Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma. After she finishes chemo therapy, her tumor will be reevaluated for the next step.
Family has created this group to keep friends and close ones updated on the latest news, prayers for the family, and emotional support. It was also set up to help Dustin and Krystal give Kennedy all the attention, love, and care that they can.
