Aber Robotics Society

The Aber Robotics Society is a society open to anyone from any department at Aberystwyth University who has an interest in Robotics, from first-years to postgrads, to staff.

The aim of the society is to provide a place to work on Robotics projects as a group, and be able to play with some neat hardware that otherwise you probably wouldn't see unless you're on your third year of the Robotics & AI course at Aber.

The society doesn't assume any prior knowledge - so if you have an interest in robotics but have never studied it, the society would be a good place to start. Not to mention that it'd look good on a CV (and maybe get some more press coverage for the uni).

The society is divided into sub-groups; allowing smaller groups of society members to work on different projects. The sub-groups we currently have are:

Roboboat -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/153676038062389/
(Roboboat is currently aiming to get a boat to sail across the Atlantic without any supervision)

iCub Development Group -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/aber.icub/
(For people who are interested in humanoid robotics & AI, this group has provisional access to the university's iCub, once people can prove they can do cool things with the iCub simulator ;))

Flying Robots - https://www.facebook.com/groups/aber.robotics.flying/
(For people who are interested in both fixed wing and rotary flying robots.)

Whale Shark Marine Surveyors - https://www.facebook.com/groups/576558829138814/
(For people interested in underwater robotics)

High Altitude Ballooning - https://www.facebook.com/groups/aber.robotics.hab/
(For people interested in high altitude balloons)

Aber Technoclub - https://www.facebook.com/groups/327280150733831/
(Not directly a sub-group of the robotics society, but this group is for the after school robotics club that runs on wednesday afternoons in the physics department. Note that this is not running in the 2014 autumn term but should be back after Christmas).

RepRap - https://www.facebook.com/groups/aberreprap/
(For people interested in the RepRap 3D printer)

Legacy groups that are no longer active:

TechnoDemo -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/250451355007150/
(The TechnoDemo group work with the local "Techno Camps" organization to demo robotics to primary/secondary schools, to raise awareness and interest in the field)

Robot Wars -> https://www.facebook.com/groups/243167199066297/
(For people who want to make robots that bash the hell out of each other! Or at least use the smaller resources lying around the labs to create smaller but nevertheless cool projects)
