DuPage Association of Women Lawyers

The Mission of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers:

Promote and foster the interests of women lawyers;

Encourage a spirit of friendship and helpfulness;

Maintain the honor and dignity of the profession.

DAWL began in 1980 when the Hon. Helen Kinney, DuPage's first woman judge, called the small number of women then practicing law in the county together in her courtroom. We incorporated in 1982.

Membership has grown to about 200 lawyers and judges, large enough to have a voice, yet small enough to know and help each other. For example, it was DAWL who founded Safe Harbor, the children's waiting room at the DuPage Courthouse, and created its not-for-profit operator, the Child Friendly Courts Foundation.We are solo, small firm and home-based practitioners; part time and full time lawyers; and larger firm, government or corporate attorneys. We are young lawyers, recent career-changers, and pioneering practitioners and judges with decades of experience.

It's the opportunity to share this breadth and depth of women's wisdom, from the woman lawyer's point of view, that makes DAWL unique.
