Ground Zero Fanny Bay

We, the residents of Fanny Bay and Ships Point, are Ground Zero.
More than any of communities in the Comox Valley we will feel the full impact of
the Raven Mine on our families, our water, and our property values.

Why letters? Research indicates that one-page, hand-written letters are one of
most effective ways to get our concerns across to elected officials. We will be
inviting folks from throughout the Comox Valley to come and write letters.

The timing is perfect for this event. We will be in the midst of a political election
campaign. We will send our letters to the political parties and we will invite local
politician running for election to attend.

Also, April 20 is when most events are being planned for Earth Day, which is
officially April 22. The proposed Raven Mine is the most serious, immediate
environmental problem facing this valley. We can attract citizens concerned
about the environment from around the valley.

Though the Ground Zero Committee is organized and run by local residents, we
will have support and assistance from Sierra Club Comox Valley and the members
of its various coalition organizations: Coal Watch, Comox Valley Water Watch,
Council of Canadians, Denman Opposes Coal and a number of other groups.

Please come and join the Ground Zero Event. Working together we defeat this
mine and help create a healthy, sustainable future for our communities and this
