Outdoor Swimming Society

Welcome to the Outdoor Swimming Society facebook group, where OSS members chat, arrange to go swimming, and share images, videos and swimming community chat.

* DO NOT ADVERTISE EVENTS ON THIS SITE. All ads and marketing material will be removed. This is a community noticeboard, designed for swimmers to chat, so we need to keep marketing off it otherwise it will be swamped.

To advertise events in our newsletter, please contact [email protected]: all funds raised this way will go towards our wild swim map, the campaign of 2012.

Any adverts posted here will be removed.

We used to have a volunteer-run national and international events list on our site that advertised all events for free, and if anyone can volunteer to run this again, please do!

A list of events swimmers might want to take part in is very useful for members, but we just want to keep this group interesting and not full of adverts.

Our big campaign for 2012 is the development of events on our wild swim map so anyone organising a swim - an event or social - can post it up there.

To find a swim spot - go to www.wildswim.com.

* For wetsuit advice: see 'swimming tips' on the main site

* For monthly news and to stay in the loop, sign up for the monthly newsletter on the OSS site. It's free.

The OSS was founded in 2006 and is now the worlds biggest collective of wild swimmers with over 13000 members. We are a not-for-profit society run by volunteers.

You must be a member (sign up on www.outdoorswimmingsociety.com) to join our social swims advertised here - read and agree to the Swim Responsibility Statement. All help is gratefully received.

Our manifesto:

* We believe swimmers have too long been held in chlorined captivity! Everyone with a set of bathers should be set free to immerse themselves in nature

* We support all those keeping lidos open and lakes and rivers clean

* We promise to enlarge and celebrate the beauty of every day we can by going for a nice outdoor swim

* We pledge to take our friends with us so they can join

* We embrace the rejuvenating effects of cold water and undertake to strip and dip wherever we can

We want to ensure that all of our social media sites are welcoming and positive.

The Outdoor Swimming Society reserves the ultimate right to edit or delete any comments or content deemed inappropriate.

The following types of comments or content will be deleted by administrators:

• Abusive or hurtful comments

• Off-topic and redundant comments (this includes promotion of events, groups, pages, websites, organisations and programs not related to or affiliated with the OSS)

• Comments that use foul language or "hate speech" (racial-, ethnic- or gender-bashing language)

• Personal attacks or defamatory comments (i.e., making negative personal comments about a fellow commenter, employee or volunteer of the OSS) instead of just expressing a difference of opinion

Individuals who violate these guidelines may be blocked without further warning.

SWIM RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT: By signing up to join the swim and/or participating in the swim, you confirm that you are a member of the OSS and have read and understand the OSS swim responsibility statement and accept its terms.

WHAT WE DO: We aim to give swimmers everything they need to have more fun outdoors: information, inspiration, and a community. We also campaign for better access for swimmers. We are a not-for-profit group managed by volunteers. Most activity and monthly newsletters happen by signing up as a member of the OSS at www.outdoorswimmingsociety.com. But members use Facebook to organise social swims with each other. There are now a number of regional groups that go swimming together on a regular basis and use this page to coordinate trips.
Start a discussion thread to find others to swim with, and see the events board for those organised by old hands
