Greater St. Louis Area Council Powder Horn

Course dates are April 25-27, 2014 and May 9-11, 2014. Participants must participate in both weekends.

Powder Horn is an Outdoor / High Adventure resource management course designed to motivate and prepare adult and youth leaders to provide their unit with a safe and correct Outdoor / High Adventure activities. Any registered Boy Scout of America leader (Cub, Boy, Varsity, Venturing, Sea Scout, & Explorer Post) is welcome to participate.

This course will give all participants an opportunity to experience the many different Outdoor / High Adventure activities. It will also provide local resources necessary to successfully participate in these Outdoor / High Adventure activities in several ways, including the following:
• Help adult and youth leaders safely conduct outdoor activities of a FUN and challenging nature.
• Provide an introduction / exposure to the resources necessary to successfully lead a unit through an Outdoor / High Adventure program.
• Familiarize Scouts and Scouters with the various Scouting Outdoor / High Adventure programs so that they can help their Scouts successfully meet their requirements (Shooting sports awards, outdoors awards, sailing awards, etc.).

After completing this course, participants will have sufficient introductory information, which will provide the following outcomes:
• Detailed knowledge of the various Scouting Outdoor / High Adventure recognitions.
• Knowledge of the health and safety requirements, and rules and regulations of the Boy Scouts of America as they apply to Outdoor / High Adventure activities.
• Introduction to the skills necessary to operate their Outdoor / High Adventure experience and the certification required and how to obtain those certifications.
• Knowledge of how to identify local resources and consultants for the various Scouting Outdoor / High Adventure activities.
