Reserva Playa Tortuga

THE PLAYA TORTUGA MARINE TURTLE CONSERVATION PROJECT, INITIATED LAST YEAR (AUGUST TO JANAUARY 2010)- IS EXPANDING. WE ARE NOW THE RESERVA PLAYA TORTUGA- A RESEARCH AND EDUCATION CENTER! THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT LAST YEAR WAS TO GATHER AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THE SEA TURTLE POPULATION THAT ARRIVES AT TORTUGA BEACH,AND USES IT AS A NESTING PLACE.

WE BUILT A HATCHERY TO PROTECT THE EGGS AND THE BABY TURTLES. AROUND 3500 BABY PACIFIC OLIVE RIDLEY SEA TURTLES WERE RELEASED DUE TO OUR EFFORTS AND GREAT COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION!

SAVING THE TURTLES IS NOT ALL THE WORK THAT WE WANT TO DO, THERE ARE LOTS OF THINGS TO DISCOVER IN THE AREA AROUND TORTUGA BEACH.
THIS YEAR OUR ORGANIZATION IS GOING TO DO AN ANIMAL AND PLANT SPECIES INVENTORY TO GATHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE NATURAL RICHNESS (BIODIVERSITY) OF THE ZONE. WE WILL ALSO CONTINUE WORKING WITH THE SEA TURTLES AGAIN BEGINNING IN JULY.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP US AND/OR PARTICIPATE, FOLLOW US WITH FACEBOOK, WE WILL POST A WEEKLY SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. OR CONTACT US DIRECTLY AT THE CENTER- (506) 2786 5200.
