First Look: Angelina Jolie’s Untitled Bosnian War Love Story

A-lister extraordinaire Angelina Jolie will be making her directorial debut next year with her currently untitled war drama. INF Daily has the first look from the Budapest shoot.

Little is known about this love story set in the midst of the Bosnian War, but we do know Jolie has recently been barred from shooting in Bosnia. While the country’s minister, Gavrilo Grahovac, claims the permit was revoked over the lack of a script attached to the project’s paperwork, Pop Eater reveals the real cause may be the Women Victims of War Association’s objections to the film’s accused “misleading” representation of the War. One may wonder: if Bosnians haven’t seen a script, where is the accusation coming from?

Basically, the project is said to center on “a love story between a Serbian man and a Bosnian woman who meet on the eve of the Bosnian War,” but the media outlets of Bosnia-Herzegovina have brought to light rumors that the relationship between the two characters begins with the Serbian man raping the Muslim woman. This key plot point makes the story one Bosnians don’t want to stand behind, hence the permit pulling.

Minister Grahovac said in a radio interview, “They no longer have the authorization to shoot in Bosnia…They will have it if they send us the scenario with a story which will be different from what we have been told by people who read it.”

A script has since been sent to the minister in hopes the film’s production can move to Sarajevo by the end of the month as originally planned. Neither Jolie nor Scout Film have spoken out about the film’s plot or the Bosnian rumors.

In the meantime, Jolie seems happy in her new role as director.
